Summary

  • introduce a shared, docked desktop Tools rail across Recipes, Menu, Shopping, and Pantry
  • keep the desktop workspace stable when Tools opens and preserve the existing 1220px shell width
  • move contextual page actions into the desktop navigation while keeping primary navigation centred
  • simplify Shopping and Pantry page toolbars and move settings into their Tools rails
  • reorganize Shopping Tools into clear Actions, Suggestions, and Ask AI information architecture
  • preserve the PWA/mobile UI and responsive behavior unchanged

Why

The previous desktop implementation mixed overlays, page-specific widths, duplicated controls, and unrelated settings/actions. This creates one consistent desktop pattern without altering the mobile companion experience.

Validation

  • 55/55 Playwright browser and visual regression tests
  • desktop navigation and Tools geometry acceptance coverage
  • PWA/mobile interaction coverage unchanged
  • TypeScript checks
  • production Vite build
  • bundle-size budget
